"Aiming high in the heart of the city"

Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

This year, both Year 6 classes are named after famous authors.

Elizabeth Laird Class is taught by Miss O'Reilly and Miss Simcock.

Eva Ibbotson Class is taught by Mrs Dunn and Mr Curlett.

Our curriculum:

Autumn 1

This half term our first science topic is evolution: this covers extinct and endangered animals, as well as learning about how animals adapt to their environments, leading to evolution in the long term.

In Geography, we are learning about the physical and human geography of Russia, as well as learning about Sikhism in R.E.

Our PE lessons are focusing on dance (indoor) and hockey (outdoor).

It is vitally important that your child reads at home as well as at school. The expectations are that your child reads AT LEAST 4 times a week at home. Reading books can be handed in on any day to be changed, but they MUST be handed in on a MONDAY, along with their reading records. These books need to have been signed by an adult each time your child has read.

Homework is an extremely important part of your child’s learning and specifically in Year 6, as it prepares them for the expectations of High School.

Homework is given out every Friday and MUST be returned to school NO LATER than the following WEDNESDAY.

The homework will be a Learning Log task based on the termly topic, as well as a piece of work for both Maths and Literacy.

Along with their homework every Friday, children will also be given a list of spellings to learn and a times table sheet to help them practise.

Spellings and times tables will be tested the following WEDNESDAY.

P.E is done on a WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY for Ibbotson Class and a MONDAY and WEDNESDAY for Laird Class. Please ensure that your child has the correct clothing/footwear for these lessons; remember that P.E lessons are done both indoors and outdoors, therefore suitable outdoor trainers will be required.

Each child has been provided with a red T-shirt from school and this is to be worn during P.E lessons.

We are very excited to begin our learning journey with Year 6. We can't wait to make the children's last year of primary school fun, successful and full of amazing memories!
